PORTFOLIO: DOCUMENT DESIGN               My knowledge of design principles gives me an in-depth understanding of how to unify and organize information, reduce clutter, add visual interest, and give the reader a clear picture about the heirarchy and importance of the information being presented. The Society for Technical Communication is a nonprofit professional organization for technical communicators. Students may join at a reduced cost and take advantage of a vast knowledge-base that can help shape their career path. This document was laid out in Adobe InDesign CS; I recreated the logo in Adobe Illustrator CS and prepared the photos in Adobe Photoshop CS.     "Thank you again for your hard work. We look forward to using the new brochure locally and also plan to submit it for consideration for national use."                         See newsletter.                           BROCHURE                 Canine Companions for Independence           —K. Carmignani, Southwest Public Relations Coordinator, Canine Companions for Independence     As the design task lead in a team project, I revised the size, content, and layout of a tri-fold brochure that puppy-raisers hand out to the public. Canine Companions for Independence is a nonprofit organization that provides highly trained service dogs to adults and children with disabilities. Breeding, raising, and training these dogs is a lengthy and expensive process and CCI depends on funding through private contributions and the assistance of many volunteers. As required by the client, this document was designed entirely in Adobe Photoshop CS.                                 See brochure.                     top           POSTER                 Posters can serve many purposes—persuasive, informative, even just attractive. Poster design involves selecting type, graphic elements, and colors, and arranging them carefully to give the viewer the desired impression.                                 My design for a poster that showcases the Goudy Oldstyle typeface (goudy1.jpg) won Best of Show at the 2006 San Diego County Fair. All of these documents were laid out in Adobe Illustrator CS2.                                 See posters.                                 The Bookman                   I designed this poster to increase awareness of the services that The Bookman provides and also to solicit donations. The Bookman is a nonprofit organization that provides books free of charge to anyone who needs them. This document was laid out in Adobe Illustrator CS and the photos were prepared in Adobe Photoshop CS.                                 See poster.                                 Locks of Love                   I designed this poster to advertise an event to gather funds and hair donations for Locks of Love. Locks of Love is a nonprofit organization that provides custom prosthetic hairpieces for children with medical hair loss and depends on donations of hair and funds to carry out their mission. This document was laid out in Adobe InDesign CS and the graphic was designed in Adobe Illustrator CS.                                 See poster.                               MAGAZINE                   I designed various elements of a magazine layout— cover, table of contents, prime story spread, and several departments—in a consistent, cohesive style.
