PORTFOLIO: GRAPHICS                 My training and experience in graphic communication gives me the ability to design appropriate visuals and my knowledge of image, illustration, and page layout software allows me to implement them. Illustration Logo/Stationery Design Typography You'll need the Adobe Flash Player (download free) to view these documents.                                 ILLUSTRATION           "Quality is never an accident; it is always the result of intelligent effort."     Technical Illustration                 The purpose of technical illustration is to use images to present a technical object in an informative way that is also visually pleasing. These documents were created in Adobe Illustrator CS2.                         —John Ruskin (1819-1900), British author, poet, and artist     See illustrations.                             The benefits of technical illustration include the ability to: emphasize relevant features while minimizing or omitting unnecessary features; photographs usually include too many irrelevant—and therefore distracting—details clarify details of shape, structure, and material give various perspectives, such as cutaway, bird's-eye, worm's-eye, and interior view                                 Graphic Illustration                   The purpose of graphic illustration is to use images to help convey a mood or idea. These images may take a variety of forms and be used in a variety of media. These documents were created in Adobe Illustrator CS and CS2.                                 See illustrations.                                 LOGO/COLLATERAL DESIGN                 For this project, I designed my own logo and business collateral. I wanted a simple symbol that would clearly illustrate the purpose and product associated with the logo. The stationery was laid out in QuarkXPress 6 and the logo was designed in Adobe Illustrator CS.                                 See collateral1.                                 Since my other design is fairly conservative and straight-laced, I wanted to do something whimsical for a change. The stationery was laid out in Adobe InDesign CS and the logo was designed in Adobe Illustrator CS.                                 See collateral2.                                 TYPOGRAPHY                 Typography is an important element of any technical or graphic communication document. Appropriate font/font combinations, size, weight, and placement must be carefully selected to reinforce the intended style of the document and help convey the desired mood.
